(Dipodium roseum)

This orchid is probably the easiest to recognise in Nungurner due to its colour and height. When flowering, from December to February, its stem can reach a metre tall.

It grows in well drained, often poor or rocky soil in open bushland. Like other orchids, the pink hyacinth relies on decaying leaf litter for nutrients and native bees for pollination.

To give these orchids the best chance of re-seeding, it is best to avoid slashing in areas where they are known to grow until the flower heads have completely dried off.
